Every Tennessean deserves access to compassionate care delivered by physicians who are exceptional leaders, skilled clinicians, and thoughtful advocates for their communities. The Tennessee Foundation for Quality Patient Healthcare (TFQPH) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by the Tennessee Medical Association (TMA) to make this vision a reality. We empower Tennessee's physicians through innovative leadership development, targeted education, and strategic initiatives that help doctors navigate today's healthcare challenges while putting patients first. When physicians thrive as leaders, patients and communities thrive, and that's the foundation of everything we do.
Mission: To improve patient care by empowering Tennessee’s physicians through innovative strategies, leadership development, and education.
Vision: TFQPH will inspire and equip Tennessee physicians to lead with compassion, collaborate with purpose, and provide care for communities through innovative strategies transforming health across our state.
Programming
Established in honor of Dr. John Ingram, the institute aims to equip doctors with the necessary skills to lead effectively in the evolving healthcare landscape, including programs and resources that are tailored to meet the unique needs of physicians at various stages in their careers.
Physicians today face issues that require skills and knowledge they cannot acquire in medical school or residency training. The Ingram Institute for Physician Leadership fills this gap by training young physicians to become leaders in the healthcare team, in their profession and in their communities.
These programs encompass leadership development, strategic management, communication skills, and other essential leadership competencies. The curriculum is designed to empower physicians with the tools required to navigate organizational challenges, inspire teams, and drive positive change in healthcare delivery.
With a $1.5 million grant from the Tennessee Opioid Abatement Council, TFQPH is leading a three-year statewide initiative to combat opioid misuse through our Know More/No More program. Our comprehensive approach provides free prescriber education on evidence-based practices and responsible prescribing protocols, coupled with community outreach to expand public awareness. When physicians and communities know more about opioid risks and prevention, there are no more preventable deaths. By equipping Tennessee physicians with the knowledge and tools they need, we're creating lasting change in how our state addresses substance use disorders and saves lives. This initiative builds upon TFQPH's 20-year history of providing grant-funded prescribing education projects that improve patient care and care quality.
The Resident Job Board is designed to strengthen physician recruitment for our practices while streamlining the job search process for residents. Our overarching mission is to increase the number of practicing physicians in Tennessee. The first step toward this goal is to improve connections between residents training in Tennessee and TMA member practices across the state. Ultimately, our aim is to retain more residents in Tennessee and support their transition into active practice.
