The Tennessee Foundation for Quality Patient Healthcare (TFQPH) is a certified 501(c)3 not-for-profit foundation established by the Tennessee Medical Association in 2005 to create and administer programs to improve the quality of health care delivered in Tennessee, and improve or develop programs with a direct impact on the physician-patient relationship.
Formally the Tennessee Medical Association’s Physician Resource Network, TFQPH continues to serve as a quality resource to physicians across Tennessee.
Programming
Established in honor of Dr. John Ingram, the institute aims to equip doctors with the necessary skills to lead effectively in the evolving healthcare landscape, including programs and resources that are tailored to meet the unique needs of physicians at various stages in their careers.
Physicians today face issues that require skills and knowledge they cannot acquire in medical school or residency training. The Ingram Institute for Physician Leadership fills this gap by training young physicians to become leaders in the healthcare team, in their profession and in their communities.
These programs encompass leadership development, strategic management, communication skills, and other essential leadership competencies. The curriculum is designed to empower physicians with the tools required to navigate organizational challenges, inspire teams, and drive positive change in healthcare delivery.

Our History
1990
TFQPH began three decades ago as the TMA Physicians Resource Network (TMA PRN) with the design of creating a TMA physician care network.
2005
In 2005, the TMA PRN was renamed the Tennessee Foundation for Quality Patient Healthcare (TFQPH) as it sought a grant from The Physicians Foundation to pilot a project to track Schedule II prescriptions and reduce diversions using a coding system featuring a magnetic strip on insurance cards to load and close prescriptions intended for patients. As an element of the “Prescription Safety Program” TFQPH created Tennessee’s first Proper Prescribing courses on opioids.
2007
In 2007, TFQPH developed programs to reduce the volume of prescription drugs as well as educate prescribers on best prescribing practices. The Tennessee Prescription Safety Program tracked prescription drugs using real-time technology. The program ended in 2010 due to the cost of the technology. From 2007 – 2009, TFQPH presented sessions on proper prescribing practices in partnership with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Drug Diversion Task Force.
2015
In 2015, TFQPH received a grant from The Physicians Foundation to conduct a 12-month study with a Tennessee hospital to gauge and improve the communications and collaboration processes between hospital administrators and medical staff leaders. Results showed the hospital improved from the bottom quartile to the top quartile within one year.
2022
In 2022, the John Ingram Institute for Physician Leadership was realigned under TFQPH.
